Studio access / press hire

Stone & Quoin at 6 Manton St Hindmarsh is a private artist studio and the homebase of Simone/Union St Printmakers and Damien Warman/Stick to Galley Press.
We aren’t an open access studio and we currently have a full quota of studio artists.

In mutually beneficial circumstances, our classroom/workspace is occasionally available for hire in 4 hour increments to professional printmakers who are compatible with our ways of working and who are paid up Associate Members.

Workspace hire includes access to intaglio and relief cylinder presses (with blankets and lino bearers), an inking table, print drying racks, paper table with cutting mat, waterbath with towels, work bench, basic cleaning materials, tea and coffee making facilities. Artists need to provide their own consumables (such as paper, inks, intaglio materials, screenprinting inks/emulsions) and tools such as palette knives, tarlatan, brayers, screens and squeegees.

Artists are required to provide a Certificate of Currency for their insurance, demonstrate proficiency in the process they are using and undergo an induction before booking our classroom/workspace. In addition, the classroom/workspace can only be hired when a studio manager (Simone or Damien) is in attendance. Accordingly, initial enquiries as to Associate Membership should be arranged several weeks in advance and then studio/press bookings locked in (and pre-paid) as early as possible.

Please note:
- Workspace availability is determined by pre-existing teaching schedules, bookings and press availability. There is a regular teaching program, and during these times the workspace is not available. (Current teaching times are: all day Saturdays, all day Sundays and Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday evenings.)
- The workspace may be booked by several artists at once when more than one press is available.
- Likewise, the workspace may be simultaneously booked for relief, intaglio and screenprinting, pending press/print rack availability.
