The copper and steel plates are hand-guillotined from larger plates purchased from commercial metal suppliers.

• They are not plates from art suppliers. (Which is why they are more affordable than kinds of plates usually sold in art shops.)

• Most of the copper plates have protective plastic on one side. Others don’t have any. All have the usual scratches/marks from general/commercial handling on the unprotected side. (This will polish off nicely with brasso &/or whiting/vinegar.)

• None of the steel plates have protective plastic. (Any scratches/marks will polish off nicely with silvo &/or whiting/vinegar.)

• As with all plates for etching, you’ll need to clean, polish and degrease them before use, to remove scratches and the invisible protective film that all commercial metals are coated with. (Brasso, silvo &/or whiting/vinegar.)
